offensive staves

Is it possible to attack with melee using offensive magic staves?

If you are in inventory, there is a symbol just below your avatar, which you can equip with armory, weaponry etc.
This symbol can either be a sword (offensive) or a shield (defensive). If you equip any stave and choose the sword-symbol for offensive mode, your character will attack in melee (which can be useful e.g. to destroy buildings).

So long

I know that switch button but it doesnt work with offensive spell staves imbued with for example fire burst or flash spells. They are just using staff's magic but they can attack melee with healing staves.Btw thanks for the answer.

I have the main avatar and Bor set as plate tanks, Jared is archer, Shae is stave wielding crowd control frost/mezzer and Lya is group healer using 360HP greater healing staff.

Jared, Shae and Lya are set to defensive stance - shield toggle on avatar page. Jared and Shae always remain at ranged distance during combat as intended but Lya insists on going melee/close combat during every engagement.

Its very annoying. I've tried toggling the shield/sword button after changing maps and/or buying a different healing staff but she continues to charge into the plate line and go berserk - needless to say she tends to be a poor tank class build and requires much more attention than any other hero.

Any suggestions?

Well this has been discussed here:

I know it's about DS but I think the behavior is the same in SW so give it a shot.
