Spellforce 2 MMORPG

I know what you guys are thinking, "LolSpellforceMMO", but honestly, if you think about it, this game could be a very awesome MMO if done right.

But that is a BIIIIGGGGGGG If. But the game is extremely massive that I believe it could stop WoW in its tracks.

The story lines are amazing.

Gameplay and character feel is just breath taking.

I don't know about you guys, but an MMO of this game would be absolutely amazing.

Thumbs Up

Any game if handle properly will be great (and I do mean properly not just
sweet topping but louzy cake...egh ... I hate those online game....).

MMO SP will be MCC I assume.
MCC would be Multi Character Control, since there will be 1 avatar and 5 heroes.

Much as it bores me senseless, WoW has too much momentum to be stopped in it's tracks. Like other popular MMOs before it, if it ever gets thrown off the top slot, then it'll be very likely a gradual process. Meanwhile, companies have thrown millions into MMO development and not achieved that yet, many don't even expect to and some just fizzle out without really taking off. There's too much required to make them successful with a fickle audience and WoW had a head start with it's Warcraft franchise, followed by that success helping enormously in keeping the ball rolling. There's more to it than that, I'm sure, but these present huge hurdles for other companies to get past if they ever wanted to replace it on the top slot. There's still profit to be earned, even with mediocre MMOs, or they wouldn't exist, but let's not get carried away in the sales pitch.

Besides, I doubt that JoWood would take such a step, not when there is still interest in SF as is, or similar. That doesn't rule it out forever but look around, there's an extremely small interest in a SF MMO, and by extremely small I mean it might get mentioned by someone like you every couple of years.

Wink

Indeed, most of MMO selling points would it's massive war or large scale pvp.
One would ask what would MMO SP selling point would be?

It come across my mind sometime ago about possibility for MMO SP, but
quickly dismissed it since in my opinion SP best selling point is as the combination
of RPG and RTS, and not to mention the MCC part (1 avatar 5 heroes).
Of which would be difficult to implement on MMO.

But then again nothing is written in stone ^_^ .

I think, if Spellforce will become a MMORPG, it will loose its own, unique character - the mix of RPG and RTS.

Maybe, very possible with the right people as developers but I hardly think so.

Considering I play the SP part in SF universe for the story (well gameplay too but mostly for story) MMO would probably lose it as it has a pathetic try to make everyone feel "special" unlike a masterpiece of singleplayer.

SF series has indeed a major and unbelievable background to be turned into an MMORPG, imagine yourself running through the entire world of Eo experiencing story events while they happened. Wouldn't that be great and an amazing experience?!

Probably...but then it wouldn't be the same old SF anymore!

Some things are just never meant to be. SF has always been, as others have said an rightly so, a mix of RTS and RPG. Turning that into an MMORPG would just be kind of meh (if you guys know what I mean!)...

So if Jowood wants they can launch a new MMORPG based on the SF universe but not in its gameplay nor major storyline! A different franchise is what I mean, based on Eo and its inhabitants but not concerning SF storyline events!

Indeed and pulling an mix of RTS and RPG into a MMO would take very advanced hardware to pull that off (imagine on a server with thousand of players each having an avatar with multiple spells, buildings and armies..that would cripple any supercomputer and would cost too much for the devs.

The competition is just too strong atm.
As stated before, far 'bigger budget' titles have tried and failed.
MMORPG's are the hype and the nr of titles on the market is great yet most die a silent death or belong to the Korean grindfest category.

To be fair, not all follow the pricing scheme invented by 3DO but obviously all want to make money. Worse than sucking money is sucking your 'soul'

Let's also face the fact that if you've played one you've played them all, give or take whether you're an elf battling rats, a hero battling thugs or whatever. Gameplay is always the same grind of killing a gazillion somethings on your underpowered-cuz-it's-better-to-group toon just so you can get to the next level and be able to battle a gazillion of something equally dull. It's about as far removed from the innovative concept of a RTS/RPG hybrid that SF gave us as you can get. MMOs are kinda like reality TV, or a meal your mum (not your mum specifically btw LOL) makes - if you you show an interest then you're going to get a steady diet of the damn thing until you're sick of it. Must be human nature, thinking why innovate when we can copy, mostly. Hopefully JoWood, if they ever did make a MMO, would think outside the box.

I hate to burst bubbles after a first post but from your comment I'm not sure you understood that this isn't actually happening. For it to be the best MMO they'd need to think of making a MMOG first, then they'd need to make one and then you'd need to see it before coming to such a conclusion.

6 out of 15 people who care to comment would like a SF MMOG so ask yourself how likely it is to happen. Not impossible, I'm sure, but it's not going to fit the definition with so few playing.
